Day 11: Gettin' There...

Model sheets are finished for all three main characters and a full storyboard for the first two chapters was completed. We also looked in the colour palette we want each part of the game to have.




(SPOILER ALERT! This is the only time we'll be posting a story board like this because it spoils what's going to happen in the game and shows you how to beat it. Just this once, m'kay?)



Today is the deadline for budgeting at the HKU and literally EVERYONE we're supposed to contact is either sick or not around. -_-; We should be able to fix everything tomorrow, otherwise we're in trouble. Licencing to app stores is expensive...

Oh well, We're gonna push on! On the plus side, tomorrow work ought to start on finalized pieces for the game. At last! :D

Day 10: Just Like Real Concept Artists!

As we finalize the look of the game, its easy to lose track of what we initially wanted: A clean, animation-inspired visual style that is fun to look at and clearly viewable on small screens. So as a reminder, this quote from Scott Mccloud's book Understanding Comics was posted on out VIP wall (VIP stands for Very Important Pictures):
One of our scientist's designs was tweaked slightly to coincide with her nationality (on the left). It very subtle but the styling of her hair was made longer and her skin tone lightened slightly. The longer hair is definitely better, as before the two scientists' hair styles looked a bit too similar. This makes them a bit more individual from one another.


More model sheets and reference guides of the protagonists are in the works to aid the team in working in the same style. Today this page of guides to drawing Mozart was completed. We're real artists. See? We have model sheets and everything. :P


We're trying to simplify our backgrounds, taking inspiration from Maurice Noble, who is the king of breaking a scene down to its basics and conveying a lot of information cleanly and stylishly. Noble made a lot of backgrounds for Chuck Jones animations, such as What's Opera?. We also love his use of limited, wacky colour palettes.

Day 9: Environments, Scientists and Turn Sheets

Colours and feel for all the environments was explored, two scientist designs were completed and we now have turn-sheets for the three protagonists' heads. (Very important to keep the style consistent.)






The first portion of the scrip is done and we know which illustrations to make. Just gotta come to a final decision on the visual style of the game and we can begin production.

Things are really starting to kick off now!

Day 8: BONUS FACT

Did you know if you put a marshmallow in the microwave (on its highest setting) it expands? Then if you turn the microwave off, it shrinks down again.




 It gets bigger than in this picture but it shrank quite a bit by the time we opened the door and took a picture. Its super cool and tasty! Try it out sometime. :P


Day 8: Environments and Script Writing

Today we made decisions about some of the environments where the game will take place and how they will look. Progress was made in writing the script and coming up with game play as well.

(We've decided to not spoil the story on this blog, so we can't offer too much information about this here we're afraid but we hope you still enjoy our concept art. :D)

Day 7: Meet the Team Video

Today was the official premier of our "Meet the Team" video. Check it out and see how professional we are.



In other news, the outline for the game's story is complete and work has started on the script. We will be seeing finalized work very soon.

Work also went into fine-tuning the designs for the protagonists and thinking about where our heroes will travel to in the game.

Day 6: Open Office Day

Onze goede volgers  van dag hadden we een Opend Office dag, waar wij mensen genodigd hebben om hun mening over art stijlen te geven.
Onze Testers hebben wij gevraagd welke schetsen zij aantrekkelijk vonden en wat zij interessant vinden om naar te kijken. Hier kwamen wij op goede uitkomsten, en willen wij ons bedanken bij de mensen die eventjes tijd namen om hun mening te geven.
